FRIDAY, MARCH 21ST
Auditions for the Cougarettes will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008. Auditions are open to incoming freshman, transfer students, and current BYU students. Auditioners are not required to show any of their own choreography. Instead, they will be taught the material that they will audition with. You must be accepted to BYU in order to audition and to be considered for the team.
This year’s auditions will be held in Rooms 270 & 278 of the Richards Building on the BYU Campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please wear modest dance attire with a comfortable jazz shoe or other appropriate footwear. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in 161 RB, the Women’s Issue Room. Please bring a current photo or color copy and a resume (i.e. experience, dance studies, recognitions). The photos will not be returned. You MUST provide us with 2 references including phone numbers of individuals who have trained or worked with you in a dance team capacity. There will be a $10 cash only audition fee.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Cougarette auditions run like a master class. You will be asked to go
across the floor with several combinations where judges will be
accessing your technique and abilities. Across the floor combinations
will include but are not limited to: kicks, leaps (switch, grande'
jetes, back, side, and tilt), and turns (you must be able to do at least
a triple pirouette). If you are selected from this first part of the
audition, you will be asked to stay and learn 2 dance combinations. One
will be primarily jazz but may incorporate lyrical and the other will be
hip hop. The field will be narrowed down and the group of finalists will
be asked to stay for an interview. You DO NOT need to prepare any of
your own material. We are looking for advanced level technique,
ability, stage presence and someone who captures the Cougarette style.
Dance Talent Awards for Cougarettes will no longer be held. Scholarship money will go to team members only.
